Last week was a pretty tough week for me, physically. Training before local crits then racing and intense sessions on the other days meant I have had a few days recovery. My training has been planned now until the Tour of Bright on the 4th of December. I feel like I can be in with a shout on a couple of the days, if the training set has the desired effect. Bright is a good opportunity to see where I am at before 2016.
I now have a deeper knowledge of the roads and climbs around here and a regime as such is starting to form. As much as I like to try and relax, I always appreciate waking up early and ‘getting it done.’
I have also managed to get my leg around a team bike, even with race wheels and the pedals and saddle off my training bike, the Swift is still lighter. After a couple of rides, I’m reasonably confident on the position and the handling of the bike.
Further to that, I now have one of those random number generators again. It’s great to be able to see the figures; I think the values that training with a power meter provides once analysed, gives me a greater understanding of my progression.
With the bike and the knowledge of the local roads, you need some good clothing to train in. I was lucky enough to try some Giordana FR Carbon kit. It is honestly the best fitting and most comfortable kit I have tried. I really do recommend it. If you are interested in getting some there will be a link below the blog, feel free to have a gander.
Food – a few people have been asking me what the food is like over here. Well these bananas taste like a banana etc etc.. I have been fortunate as I mentioned in the previous blog, to be living with a family so evening meals tend to be cooked for me. Which is perfect. The dishes provided perhaps require more effort to cook than my regular go to meals (Pasta and beans). So basically, (trying not to sound like a chef off a cooking show) the food is great.
Some of you may have heard, I broke my wrist again. I don’t want to go too in depth as it is more than frustrating. The key points are, car, tram lines and broken wrist. So this now means 4-6 weeks in a cast. It’s certainly not ideal but now I just need to concentrate on the bigger picture. Lucky I didn’t replace my broken shoes early – Every cloud. I am hoping to continue training as normal on the turbo.
So there we are.
