So a lot has happened since the last blog.
After my previous post I had another appointment at the hospital. I was notified that that I needed an operation as I had broken my wrist/arm in multiple places and they needed to be pinned. The doctor then advised me to not touch the bike/race for 3 months. Which meant I was unable to race the tour of Bright amongst other races. After the news I then had a complete week off the bike in order for my body to fully focus on healing the wrist.
During this week off I ended up sorting a place to stay in Bright, a small village in the Victorian Alps. It is a great place to train and a lot quieter than Melbourne. I have a pretty basic box room on top of a café. I have never really been so content. As long as I cover my rent, all I have to do is train. Which is great.
Once I arrived in Bright I was eager to begin training and was out on the roads almost straight away. There are some epic climbs around here, the longest being 30km. On the note of Training, I have a new Coach. The training set is a lot different to what I have done in the past and nothing like I would have set myself. I find it really interesting listening to such a knowledgeable coach. From nutrition to just general training information. Everything seems to be calculated.
Together with my coach we have decided my first race back will be the New Zealand Cicle Classic UCI 2.2. I will be using this as a training race so the result isn’t what is important there but I am looking forward to it. I will be racing as part of a composite team as I am no longer supported by an Australian team.
There is plenty of good news to follow in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out!
Thanks for reading,
Ben
